"Name a Calf" Donated to DBT & Breast Cancer Awareness

GenoSource Donates “Name a Calf” to Each One Tell One Annual Golf Tournament

Each One Tell One (EOTO) is an annual golf outing that takes place near Chicago, IL. The purpose of EOTO is to bring awareness and education to women who may have Dense Breast Tissue (DBT). When women who have DBT go in to get a screening done, their breast tissue will show up white on their mammogram. Guess what else shows up white on a mammogram? Cancer.

Having DBT increases the chance that breast cancer may go undetected by a mammogram since dense breast tissue can mask a potential cancer. Because of this we support EOTO and agree with the importance to educate women on DBT because so many women do not know that they have to ask for additional screening. They need to have an ultrasound taken to truly see if they clear or not.

If you've never heard about DBT before, you should know that 45% of women in the US have dense breast tissue. Also that about 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer throughout her lifetime. Because of this, we decided to donate the chance to buy a “Name a Calf” from GenoSource to the EOTO event.

Pat Carroll, partner of GenoSource, with Jeannine Canino Bieda, the Chairwoman of the EOTO Golf Outing

Participants of the EOTO Outing came from all over the US, from New York City to Reno, Nevada, to take part in this educational golf outing. While there they had the chance to donate $50 to name a calf. This $50 is going to the EOTO mission and the participant gave a name to the GenoSource team. Once we receive the name we will be submitting either the bull or heifers registration to the Holstein Association and when we receive their Registration Paper we will be sending a duplicate along with a photo of the calf to the EOTO participant.

This was a great opportunity to not only donate to an important cause but to also introduce the dairy industry in a whole new way! Many of those who traveled to partake in the EOTO Outing has no direct connection to the agricultural community. The conversation this donation created was a great building bridge for many to the dairy industry, it exposed a whole new world to many.

We had great feedback and were able to donate $650 from it. Some of the participants already have names picked out, we’re excited to see what Sober Sally, Chief, Brit the Cow and Mia Moo all accomplish in their lifetime at GenoSource!
